Photography Verticals

To understand photography, one needs to known the type of photography. 

Photography could be divided into following 'verticals' -

1. Functions - Marriage, Party, Farewell, festivals etc)
2. Family, Friends, People
3. Landscape, panaoramic 
4. Travel & Tourism
5. Portrait
6. Architectural
7. Nature, plants, sea, mountains
8. Wildlife, animals, underwater life
9. Macro
10. Historical, Political
11. Astronomy, Space
12. Miniature/ microscopic
13. Night, infrared
14. Time lapse
15. Sports.
16. Journalism,documentary.
17. Entertainment- film, television.
18. Commercial- Product, advertising, props.
19. Events - marriage, concerts, conferences, meetings, live shows, beauty pageants.
20. Legal, forensic.
21. Medical.
22. Satellite, aerial, surveillance.

Most people would be happily clicking their pictures in the the first three categories (in green colour) . Photography enthusiasts would also be interested in categories marked in orange colour. Professionals would make their living from almost all categories and most would be working on the last categories (in grey font).

To click great pictures, each category above requires deeper understanding of -

What is the center of attention.
What you want to communicate to the world.
What are the 'beauty spots' to look for.
What are the limitations under which a photographer has to work.
What are the pitfalls which can come in the way of a good picture taking opportunity.
What are the techniques and equipment needed.
